Tips for Making Perfect Cinnamon Rolls

  1. Use Fresh Ingredients:
    • Ensure your yeast is fresh for the best rise. If using active dry yeast, activate it in warm water with a bit of sugar before adding it to the dough. Instant yeast can be mixed directly with the dry ingredients.
  2. Warm Milk:
    • When warming the milk, make sure it’s lukewarm (around 110°F/43°C). Too hot can kill the yeast, while too cold will prevent it from activating properly.
  3. Knead Properly:
    • Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes. Proper kneading develops gluten, which gives the rolls their structure.
  4. First Rise:
    • Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free area until it’s doubled in size. If your kitchen is cool, you can place the bowl in the oven (turned off) with the light on to create a warm environment.
  5. Filling Variations:
    • Feel free to customize the filling! Add chopped nuts (like pecans or walnuts), raisins, or even a touch of cocoa powder for a chocolate twist.
  6. Rolling Technique:
    • Roll the dough tightly but gently when creating the log. This helps maintain a spiral shape and ensures even filling distribution.
  7. Even Slicing:
    • Use a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss to slice the rolls. This will give you clean cuts without squishing the dough.
  8. Second Rise:
    • After placing the rolls in the baking dish, let them rise again until puffed. This step ensures they’re light and fluffy.
  9. Oven Temperature:
    • Preheat your oven properly before baking to ensure even cooking. If your oven tends to run hot, consider using an oven thermometer to check the actual temperature.
  10. Baking Time:
    • Keep an eye on the rolls as they bake. They should be golden brown and sound hollow when tapped. Overbaking can lead to dry rolls.
  11. Glazing:
    • Drizzle the glaze over the rolls while they’re still warm to allow it to melt into the crevices. This adds extra sweetness and flavor.
  12. Storing Leftovers:
    • If you have any leftover rolls, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, you can freeze them after they’ve cooled. Reheat gently in the microwave or oven.

Hi, I just wanted to ask where the eggs come in because it’s not stated on the recipe? I’m assuming in with the milk, butter, and sugar but please let me know if I’m wrong.

Hi! Thank you so much for pointing that out…you’re absolutely right! The eggs should be added in with the warm milk, melted butter, and sugar during step 1. There was a typo in the recipe card. I’ll be updating the recipe to reflect that.
