There’s something about May that makes me want to slow down, to sit outside with a cup of tea, plant something new, and get lost in a book that feels like a deep exhale.

This month, I’m leaning into stories about food, simple living, and cozy moments that feel just right for this in-between season.

Here’s what’s on my reading list for May:

1. The Little Library Year by Kate Young

Why I chose it:
This book feels like a celebration of food, seasons, and stories, all woven together. It’s part cookbook, part reflection on life through books and recipes, and it’s full of that cozy “curl up in a sweater” feeling I love this time of year.

2. The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim

Why I chose it:
This story is about four women escaping their dreary lives to spend a month in a beautiful Italian villa, and in the process, finding themselves again. It feels like the perfect read for May: full of sunshine, personal renewal, and gentle transformation.

3. Home Cooking: A Writer in the Kitchen by Laurie Colwin

Why I chose it:
This isn’t just a book about food, it’s about life, family, the messy and wonderful reality of home kitchens. It feels like sitting at the table with an old friend. I’m planning to dip in and out of it all month.

4. The Comfort Book by Matt Haig

Why I chose it:
I like having something nearby that I can open to any page and instantly feel a little lighter. This book is full of short, comforting reflections, like a soft landing for busy days.

5. A Year in Flowers by Erin Benzakein

Why I chose it:
May feels like the unofficial start of flower season. This book is part inspiration, part how-to, and all-around beautiful. Even just flipping through the pages feels like a form of self-care.

What About You?

What kinds of books are you craving right now? Cozy stories, fresh recipes, or a little bit of both?

If you have a May reading list too, I’d love to hear what’s on it.
