I made a batch of strawberry jam recently and felt that quiet little thrill seeing all the jars lined up, lids sealed tight. But after the toast phase wore off, I started wondering what else to do with it.
So here are some ways I’m planning to enjoy it, just everyday things that feel a little extra special with a spoonful of homemade strawberry jam.
Everyday Sweet Things
1. Strawberry Milk
I add a spoonful of jam to a glass of cold milk, stir, and that’s it. Sometimes I warm it up before bed, sometimes I drink it in the kitchen with the window open. It’s soft and comforting and feels like a treat.
2. Swirled into Oatmeal
I just swirl it in right at the end, no measuring. It melts into the oats and makes them taste like strawberry pie without the work.
3. Yogurt Bowl
Layered with plain Greek yogurt and a sprinkle of granola. Nothing fancy, but it feels like I put in effort (even when I didn’t).
4. Muffin Filling
I bake plain muffins and spoon a little jam in the center before they go into the oven. When they come out, the middle is warm and fruity.
5. Jam Butter
Softened butter + jam = the best thing to spread on biscuits or pancakes. I keep a small container of it in the fridge.
6. Pancake or Waffle Topper
No syrup needed. I just warm the jam a little and pour it over with a pat of butter. It’s a small switch that makes breakfast feel special.
7. Thumbprint Cookies
I make these when I want something nostalgic and easy. The dough is simple, and the jam makes them feel homemade in the best way.
8. Over Ice Cream
If I have good vanilla ice cream in the freezer, a spoon of jam over the top turns it into dessert.
Something a Little Different
9. Jam + Brie Toasts
Toasted baguette, slice of brie, little spoon of jam. It’s salty-sweet and perfect with tea (or wine, if the day calls for it).
10. Grilled Cheese with Jam
Sounds strange, but hear me out, sharp cheddar, a thin layer of jam, sourdough bread. It melts together and hits that sweet-and-savory craving.
11. Salad Dressing
I whisk jam with olive oil, a splash of vinegar, and a little Dijon. It makes a pretty pink vinaigrette and pairs really well with greens and goat cheese.
12. Jam Bars
Oat base, thick layer of jam, crumble on top. I bake them in the morning and call them breakfast, which feels rebellious in the best way.
13. With Cheese + Crackers
If I ever put out a little snack board (or just want one for myself), a jar of jam always makes it feel more put together.
14. Crepe Filling
I spread it inside warm crepes with a little whipped cream. It feels like something you’d get at a café, but it’s just me in the kitchen.
15. Glaze for Chicken or Pork
I mix a few spoonfuls with balsamic or mustard and brush it over meat before roasting. It gives everything a slightly sweet, caramelized edge.
If you’ve made jam this season and you’re wondering how to use it up, start here.
And if you find another way to use it that you love, tell me. I’ve still got two jars left.
