Sometimes I start thinking about how strange it is that some of the most important growth in life happens when everything feels uncertain. When things are going well, it’s easy to feel confident. It’s easy to dream. It’s easy to talk about goals and vision boards and big plans.
But when you’re in a difficult season, you don’t feel visionary. You feel tired. You feel distracted. You feel like you’re just trying to keep everything from falling apart. And yet, I’ve noticed something.
The hardest seasons are usually when I make the most important decisions. Quiet ones.
The decision to keep building my business even when I’m discouraged.
The decision to save money even when it would be easier to spend it.
The decision to go for a walk instead of spiraling.
The decision to protect my energy.
The decision to stop waiting for someone else to fix my life.
Those don’t look impressive from the outside. But they change everything. I think we romanticize blooming seasons beacause we love the harvest. We love when everything feels aligned and beautiful. But planting is different.
Planting feels uncertain. You don’t know if what you’re doing will work and we don’t get instant proof. You just have to trust that small, consistent effort matters. That’s where I think a lot of people give up, because they don’t see results fast enough.
I’ve done that before. I’ve let hard seasons convince me that nothing was working and I let emotion dictate long-term decisions. Now I’m trying to do it differently. Instead of asking, “When will this season end?” I’m asking, “What can I build while I’m here?”
Because difficult seasons don’t have to be wasted seasons. They can be strengthening seasons.
Maybe this is the season where you:
- build financial independence
- start something small but meaningful
- finally enforce boundaries
- take your health seriously
- or simply learn how to stand alone without feeling abandoned
You might not feel powerful while you’re doing it. But you are.
Planting seeds in a difficult season is an act of self-respect. It says, “Even if today feels heavy, I am still investing in my future.” And that matters more than temporary comfort.
I don’t think life ever becomes completely stable or predictable. But I do think we can become more stable within it. And sometimes the most important growth happens underground, when no one sees it, when no one applauds it.
If you’re in a difficult season, don’t panic. Don’t tear up what you’ve already planted. Keep planting.
Even if it’s only one small seed at a time.
Autumn

You don’t need a perfect season to start building something meaningful. Even when life feels uncertain, you can still plant something steady.
What are you planting right now?
